As first lady Melania Trump joined husband President Donald Trump on a trip to Hurricane Harvey-battered Corpus Christi, Texas, her wardrobe gained attention from users online.

The first lady was first seen wearing a pair of heels, garnering criticism from those who said the shoes were impractical for a flood zone, USA Today reports. But after she changed into sneakers, it was Melania’s hat, proclaiming “FLOTUS,” that stole the show.

Melania, 47, was spotted leaving the White House pairing her outfit of black cropped pants and a green jacket with black high heels as she joined the president on a trip to Texas after it was hit with massive flooding by Hurricane Harvey. Users on Twitter mocked the first lady for her impractical shoe choice.

“What the hell did [Melania] go to flood zone in 4 inch heels for, [Donald]? BOTH of you are as fake as a $3 bill!” wrote one user.

“I usually disagree [with] bashing Melania but this time I do agree,” wrote another. “Bad choice of shoes, Melania.”

Supporters of the Trumps stood by Melania’s fashion choice.

“The establishment media NEVER went after Michelle Obama the way they are going after Melania Trump – N-E-V-E-R. I stand with #FLOTUS & #POTUS,” wrote one Trump supporter.

When the couple arrived in Texas, however, Melania had changed into a more practical look for a flood zone. She paired black pants with a white shirt, tennis shoes and a pulled-back hairstyle covered by a black cap reading “FLOTUS” in white print.

Barstool Sports said the “FLOTUS” hat was a “baller move,” while Mashable called it “bizarre.”

The president, known for wearing hats sold on his website — like his campaign-era “Make America Great Again” red hat — wore a white hat with “USA” in black font. While his style hat is up for sale online, Melania’s “FLOTUS” hat is not, AOL reports.

Users online made jokes about the hat as it gained attention on social media, Mashable reports.

“Melania Trump is now thoughtfully wearing a hat saying FLOTUS so we know who she is,” wrote one user.

Despite the focus on her fashion, the first lady noted in a statement that she had come to Texas to offer assistance to those affected by the hurricane.

“I want to be able to offer my help and support in the most productive way possible, not through just words, but also action,” said Melania in a White House-issued statement. “What I found to be the most profound during the visit was not only the strength and resilience of the people of Texas, but the compassion and sense of community that has taken over the state. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with the people of Texas and Louisiana.”

The haters won’t be happy regardless of what she wears.
